Field Meetings Summer 2023

All walks start at 10am (try to get to the meeting place by 9.30am) and usually finish at around 4pm, or earlier. Suitable clothing and footwear recommended, and bring a packed lunch. Saturday 27th May – LIZARD SW61/SW71 – A walk from Lizard Village SW7012 to Caerthillian Cove SW6912 via Lizard Point to look for some of the rarest British plants. Meet at Lizard Green (free) car park, SW703125.

Tuesday 30th May – THE LOST GARDENS OF HELIGAN SW94/SX04 – A walk around the gardens and adjacent land to record native or naturalised plants. There will be no charge to enter the gardens but BOOKING IS ESSENTIAL and contact Ian the day before if you intend to come. Meet at main car park SW995467.

Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th June – COLLIFORD SX17. A ‘bioblitz’ organised by South West Lakes Trust. Another chance to look for Frog Orchid and Moonwort. Meet at car park SX163731.

Saturday 24th June – RAME peninsula SX44 – Coastal walk, and chance to look for Bee Orchids and perhaps Small-Flowered Tongue-orchid. Meet at Penlee nature reserve car park SX43694910.

Tuesday 27th June – CRENEY FARM, RED MOOR SX06 – A look around Creney Farm east of Helman Tor and adjacent to Red Moor, and now part of the Cornwall Wildlife Trust rewilding project area. Meet at Creney Farm SX073617.
Tuesday 4th July – GOSS MOOR SW 96 – a look around the NW part of Goss Moor. Meet at gate at SW94726057, along the old A30. Parking spaces are in various places along the old road west of the gate.

Tuesday 18th July – DUCKPOOL SS21 – a coastal walk. Meet in car park SS20151167.

Tuesday 25th July – PENTIRE POINT AND THE RUMPS SW98 – Meet at Lead Mines car park SW94097998. This is a National Trust paying car park but the Botanical Cornwall Group will be able to park for free. NT members use your cards as normal.

Tuesday 1st August – PORTHLEVEN SW62 – a coastal walk between Porthleven and Rinsey Head. Meet in lay-by on Beacon Road SW620263.

Tuesday 8th August – CHEESEWRING SX27 – A walk around moorland and old mining areas. Meet at car park NE of Minions at SX262713.

Tuesday 15th August – TREGOSS MOOR SW96 – A walk around the eastern part of Goss Moor NNNR with heathland habitat. Park in the free small car park at SW98046103

Sunday 20th August – HAYLE – A meeting to look for and identify Salicornia spp. with David Steere. Many other interesting species may be seen. Meet at Swimming Pool car park SW55813774. It will be muddy on the saltmarsh so wear waterproof boots or wellies.

Saturday 26th August – LAUNCESTON SX38 – urban botany! An exploration around the town and valley habitats. Meet at the free car park at Launceston Leisure Centre SX33338385.
