LIZARD (SW61/SW71) – rare plant twitch!
A walk from Lizard Village SW7012 to below Lizard Lighthouse SX7011, and around the west coast SW6911 via Caerthillian Cove SW6912 and to Kynance Cove SW6913 and SW6813, ending at Kynance Cove. Not a square-bashing day but a walk to take in most of the Lizard’s rarest British plants including Trifolium bocconei, T. strictum, T. incarnatum subsp. molinerii, Asparagus prostratus, Herniaria ciliolata, Juncus capitatus, Hypochaeris maculata and perhaps even Ranunculus tripartitus and Isoetes histrix. A long list of uncommon species such as Orobanche alba, Allium schoenoprasum, Genista pilosa should also be seen. Also a chance to count the numbers of Minuartia verna plants present on this stretch of coast. Meet on Lizard Green 9.30am. There will be a short transfer of cars to Kynance NT car park before we set off so that we do not need to walk back to Lizard Village. The day will finish later than usual – 6pm so there may be a chance to get a pub meal or fish and chips in Lizard Village in the evening to round off the day.
