Field Meetings winter 2017 and 2018 now advertised

Due to popular demand by a few keen botanical field recorders I have arranged some meetings in the field for December and January, and also the annual indoor meeting on Saturday 27th January at Fraddon Village Hall. What? I hear you cry! Surely there isn’t anything around to record at this time of year? Last winter a few of us carried on recording, targeting mostly coastal areas and it was worthwhile until late January (February was less rewarding). Though some species weren’t showing, enough were found to push monad totals to over 200 species per monad (after 1999). One monad we did at Southdown, at Millbrook SX4352 on 18th January 2017 went from 140 species to 348 species recorded after 1999! It is also an excuse to get out into the elements and get some winter sunshine. However, BOOKING IS ESSENTIAL. If the winter weather is very cold, wet, snowy or windy (or forecast to be) the meeting may be cancelled at short notice.

All walks start at 10am (try to get to the meeting place by 9.30am) and usually finish at around 4pm.  Suitable clothing and footwear is recommended and bring a packed lunch. Leader/contact for all walks is Ian Bennallick unless stated otherwise. Botanical Cornwall Group Co-ordinator – Ian Bennallick, Lower Polmorla, St Wenn, Bodmin, Cornwall, PL30 5PE. Tel: 01726 890384 or 07714 738189.
